GNA University organized GO green Marathon
Celebrating the International Day of Forestry, GNA University collaborated with the District Forest Officer Hoshiarpur to run a marathon around Hoshiarpur town today 21st March 2017, inculcating the awareness among masses, students and faculty of the University, and local colleges about the need to preserve and promote Green Earth.
The Marathon was flagged off by Vice Chancellor, Dr Prem Kumar of GNA University at the City’s Green Park this morning. He was accompanied by Mr. N S Randhawa, Chief Conservation Officer, and Mr. Surjit Singh Sahota, District Forest Officer.
Earlier while introducing the theme Professor P Thareja, Dean – Faculty of Engineering & Technology said the trees were responsible for Fresh Air and Pure water, the two elements essential for human life, and for which the trees maintain their vitality. There is thus a need to make people aware for the eco-stability and sustainability of mother earth, which starts earnestly with the plantation of trees. Mr. N S Randhawa added the value of trees can be quantified.
In the Inaugural address, Dr Prem Kumar counted the impact of trees in making quality of life and thus stressed their felling should be discouraged. The marathon ended at the Roshan Ground, where by the participants had run a distance of 10.5 kms. Mr Sahota complimented the students who ran for Health and Fun, which comprised of 750 students of GNA University, and 250 students from local Hoshiarpur colleges. He also applauded the efforts of organisers especially Mr Ramesh Panda.
Mr. Sunil Sarad- Registrar, Mr. Sameer Varma and other staff members from the university were also present to support and motivate the students.
