GNA University celebrated National Sports Day
The celebration of National Sports Day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, was kicked off in GNA University by the Department of Physical Education and Sports on August 29, 2017 where friendly Kabaddi, Football and Badminton matches were organized. The staff and the students assembled in the university’s premises to show the commitment to promote the sports culture. All those present and those who participate in the celebrations took an oath to encourage and motivate fellow citizens and children to take part in sports and contribute in the making of a strong and healthy nation. Honorable Vice Chancellor – Dr Prem Kumar apprised the students by sharing the contribution of Major Dhyan Chand in the field of sports and motivated the students to mark a difference by working in the field of sports. He added that the best way to pay tribute to Major Dhyan Chand is to inculcate his qualities of discipline, hard-work and determination in our hockey players and also in other sportspersons. Dr Mohd. Saleem Javed – Deputy Dean of Faculty of Physical Education and Sports said that Sports play a crucial role in developing our mental as well as physical strength which are the hallmark for success in every field. He was of the view that India is on continuous stride to set new heights for its performance in world sports and we just need to keep this momentum by keeping the ideals set by Major Dhyan Chand, who we remember today. Mr. Kulvir Singh and Mr. Sukhdeep Singh, the faculty members of the department were also present to celebrate this day.
